About the Event
It sounds like your students had a wonderful time celebrating Dussehra with a creative and vibrant tradition! Golu is a beautiful part of the South Indian Dussehra celebrations, especially in Tamil Nadu and parts of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The arrangement of dolls, known as "Bommai Kolu" or simply "Golu," is a cherished tradition that reflects the rich cultural heritage of the festival.
In a typical Golu setup, dolls representing gods, goddesses, animals, mythical creatures, and even everyday human life are arranged on steps. The display often tells stories from Hindu mythology, like the triumph of good over evil, which ties beautifully into the essence of Dussehra, symbolizing Lord Rama's victory over the demon king Ravana.
By dressing up as Golu dolls,
our students not only engaged with the artistic and cultural traditions of the festival but also had the opportunity to learn about the significance of the figures they portrayed.…
